The pre-2005 XT was a beast until they ruined it by removing the manual transmission, at least in North America.

Bring back the Legacy GT Spec B. Then make an STI version that has a flat 6 and twin scroll turbo (or just twin turbos).

It seems you are correct.
When I tried to find a used one in 2009, my investigations on the Forester forums indicated this was not so. Now I am filled with regret - so very much regret.
